Sedgeford - Population 500

Sedgeford, although small, is a very active village.

We have a new village hall, built in the millennium year, where various activities take place. Clubs that meet regularly are Bowls, Table Tennis, Yoga, Rejects (Youth Drama), SADS (Sedgeford Amateur Dramatics Group), Women’s Friendship Group, NADFAS (includes North West Norfolk). There are regular Quiz evenings, Bingo and Games Evenings and the Annual Fete is held at the beginning of August. We usually have a St Georges Day Supper and last Christmas we recorded ‘Should the Team Think’ for Radio Norfolk. The hall is also hired out for functions such as Wedding Receptions, Children’s parties etc.

Unfortunately a year ago we lost our small shop and post office but Harpley Post Office operates a mobile in the village hall on Tuesday afternoon, Thursday and Friday mornings

A Luncheon Club is held once a month in the village hall and the food is cooked on the school site and brought over. This is a good community link, usually attended by the Rector with members of the school, church and village.

We have an active Parish Council who meet monthly. They have recently approved the site for nine affordable houses in the village. With the increase in property prices, young people have found it hard to get on the property ladder and hopefully this will encourage them to stay in Sedgeford.

The school was completely refurbished in September 2004 when it became a Primary School. At that time there were 28 on roll but there are now 45 on roll with a thriving Pre-school on the school site. A new purpose built modular building for the Pre-School will be opened in September 2008. This building will also be used fro extended childcare facilities, including After School club, afternoon sessions for Pre-School, holiday club. We already provide Breakfast club and Lunch. We also hope to start Adult Education Classes and Parent and Baby group. The Pre-School is licensed for Full Day Care for up to 26 children.

Although not a Church School, the children have an assembly each day, say their prayers at lunchtime and at the end of the day. They visit the Church for special services, i.e. Christmas, Easter and Harvest. The children go to Ringstead Church for Ascension Day, since the village came into our catchment area when the school at Ringstead closed.
